Minimalism

April 5, 2011

I’m back from an eventful, getaway trip to New York City this past weekend.  Of course it had to rain when I was there, but that just gave me an excuse to wear my trench coat that has been hiding in my closet since August.  I still enjoyed exploring new and familiar spots in Soho, catching up with a Danish friend, making a few necessary purchases ;) and soaking up the city view and nightlife.

I was especially happy to get in touch with a friend I met last year while working for StyleWeek Providence, designer David Yoo.  David graduated from RISD last year and went on to show at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, at the ELLE Fashion Next event.  He won over judges, Derek Lam, Nicole Miller, Kate Spade’s creative director Deborah Lloyd, and Tommy Hilfiger.  He has an exceptional eye for transforming the most simple designs into something brilliant.  David takes the classic white shirt and tailored jacket to the next level.  Lately, I have been admiring the Danish and Swedish minimal, urban chic style.  So, as ordinary as “black and white” sounds, I love the classic simplicity of this combination that the Danes and Swedes have embraced so much.  Take a look at David’s designs from Charleston Fashion Week and you will see what I am talking about…
